Cabin Crew Application Photos: What Airlines Usually Ask For
Your application photos are often a recruiter's first impression of you — before your CV, your interview or your assessment day. Here's what airlines typically ask for, and how to get photos that show you at your professional best.
The photos most airlines ask for
Requirements vary by airline and change from time to time, so always follow the exact guidelines in the job advert or application portal. In general, recruiters ask for some combination of:
- A full-length photo in business attire, standing, showing you from head to toe
- A half-length photo showing you from the waist up
- A head-and-shoulders portrait or passport-style photo, facing the camera
- Sometimes a smart-casual full-length photo as well
Photos are usually expected to be recent and in colour, on a plain, light background, without hats, sunglasses or filters.
What to wear
- Well-fitted business attire in solid colours — a tailored suit, or a knee-length skirt or dress with a blazer
- Clean, polished, closed shoes
- For smart-casual shots, simple, well-fitted clothes without large logos or busy patterns
- Minimal, understated jewellery
Hair, grooming and makeup
Recruiters look for a neat, natural appearance that matches the airline's grooming standards, so check your airline's guidelines. As a general rule:
- Keep hair neat and away from your face — tied back if it's long
- Wear natural, polished makeup rather than heavy or dramatic looks
- Be clean-shaven or keep facial hair neatly groomed, in line with the airline standards
- Make sure nails are clean and neat
Posture, expression and retouching
Stand tall with relaxed shoulders and smile naturally — airlines want to see a warm, approachable person who looks comfortable representing their brand.
Recruiters expect your photos to look like you. Retouching should stay light: removing a temporary blemish is fine, but changing your features or body shape is not.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Phone selfies or photos taken by a friend — they rarely meet the standard recruiters expect
- Full-length photos that crop off your feet, or are taken from a low or high angle
- Busy or patterned backgrounds instead of a plain one
- Old photos that no longer look like you
- Heavy filters, beauty apps or retouching that changes your features
- Uploading the wrong format or file size — check what the application portal accepts before you apply
